Clickers
Clickers have generally not been very well received in our class, but we feel that they do have potential.
Some problems that were pointed out were technical difficulties that only ended up wasting class time. Use of Clickers may also have been hampered by a change in policy where students were required to buy and bring their own clickers whereas in previous years they were handed out to everyone at the start of class. Usually less than 30% of the 2012 class would participate in clicker questions.
Also, the questions can be intimidating for those who answer incorrectly, especially when the instructor does not have the time to go over why certain answers were right or wrong.
Online Formative Self-Assessments
Our online self-assessments were usually quizzes built directly into Medtech to give us a chance to test our knowledge. They were very successful and well-received, especially because we all want more opportunities to apply our learning. These quizzes typically are representative of material that has been taught and mimic exam-level difficulty. After you are done the quiz, you hit Submit, and your results appear immediately.
