Visiting:
You may come to the NICU anytime, day or night, to spend time with your baby. However, if you are sick with a cold or illness we ask that you postpone visiting until you are better in order to protect your baby's health.
- Family and close friends are also welcome to come visit provided they are not sick. However, they must be accompanied by a parent, and will have to leave during team rounds in the mornings.
What if I am not able to visit?
- We encourage parents to call the NICU at any time, day or night, if you have any questions or concerns between visits. Your baby's nurse will always be happy to answer any questions you may have, especially if they are keeping you up at night!
Infection Control:
Premature infants have underdeveloped immune systems, which means that they are not able to effectively protect themselves from getting sick. Always remember to wash your hands carefully before coming to visit. If you and your baby are ready for touch it is also recommended that you have bare forearms, and you keep your fingernails trimmed short. Keep your phone away when you visit, as they can carry germs. If you would like to visit with close family members and friends, just make sure to ask those that are sick to stay away until they recover.
