High or Low Blood Sugar (Hyperglycemia or Hypoglycemia):
- Blood sugar can be too high or too low.
- More frequently it is too low in premature infants.
- Most of the time the levels are easily fixed by increasing or decreasing sugar concentrations in the IV fluids.
- Issues with blood sugar at this early stage does not necessarily suggest that the baby will later develop diabetes.
