Projects must include course redesign to include innovative instructional practices including (but not limited to) technological enhancements or other active learning strategies to increase student engagement.
Up to three successful applicants will attend the 2009 CTL Course Design workshop (May 21-22, 25-27), providing them with an opportunity to develop their Course Design or Redesign plans. The E2QUATE project will support each teacher's project with the provision of an educational developer/technology assistant from June - September of 2009. Each teacher will also receive $1500.00 to help defray any costs associated with the development of new instructional materials. Teachers will be encouraged to share and discuss their experiences on Course Redesign with the E2QUATE online community.
Eligibility
Proposals are encouraged from all those involved in teaching at Queen's, including full-time faculty, continuing and term adjuncts, teaching assistants, librarians and library instructors, laboratory instructors, information and communication technology professionals, and academic program directors.
Proposals
Applicants must submit a well-defined proposal that will demonstrably enhance teaching and learning using active instructional methodologies. Successful applicants will be expected to share their outcomes with the university community and will submit a final report on their activities. Support will consist of dedicated instructional developer/information technology assistant support for a four-month period as well as $1500 to assist with the development of educational materials.
Proposal Content
Applicants must submit a proposal that addresses the following points in no more than 5 pages:
- Applicant's name, appointment and affiliation,
- A full description of the project including:
- The name and current format of the course in question
- Planned innovation or instructional methods to be introduced
- Project description and timeline to implementation
- Resources that are anticipated to be required
- The name and current format of the course in question
- A letter of support from the applicant's Dean or Department Head. Where possible, the letter should include a statement of commitment to the proposed project and an indication of any contributions of the unit to the project.
Selection Criteria
Projects will be chosen for support based on the following criteria:
- Inclusion of active teaching methods
- Feasibility within the given timeline
- Departmental support
- Applicant's availability for May Course Design workshop
Deadline for Applications
Proposals must be submitted electronically to the Centre for Teaching and Learning (ctl@queensu.ca) by 4:00pm on April 27th, 2009. Successful proposals will be announced by May 10th.
