IP Competencies

Interprofessional education for collaborative patient-centred care is defined as "occasions where two or more professions learn from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care."
(CAIPE, 1997, revised)

The CIHC National Interprofessional Competency Framework describes six domains that are essential for interprofessional collaborative practice:

  1. Role Clarification
  2. Team Functioning
  3. Patient/Client/Family/Community-Centred Care
  4. Collaborative Leadership
  5. Interprofessional Communication
  6. Interprofessional Conflict Resolution

The goal of the LTWC project is not only to provide a library of online interprofessional cases, but also to document how they are used by different teachers or instructional teams, highlighting competencies (and their requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes and values) that that are taught or reinforced in each example.
