Learning Together with Cases: Technology as a Facilitator of Interprofessional Education in Healthcare

Lindsay Davidson, Pediatric Orthopaedics, School of Medicine

IPE is an emerging trend in the healthcare professions that seeks to promote early collaboration of healthcare students. Educational institutions are challenged by the logistics and practicalities of connecting students across diverse educational streams. The Learning Together with Cases project uses web-based communities to deliver authentic patient cases. Computer-mediated asynchronous communication is used to overcome obstacles and to facilitate the instruction of large groups of students. We have observed a parallel between our experience as Interprofessional educational developers with that of learners faced with IPE. Discussion of our team's journey will be informed by qualitative feedback from stakeholders.
