Follow-Up

Currently there are no clear guidelines regarding the frequency of follow-up visits. However, for patients receiving conservative care it is generally recommended they be followed monthly and surgical patients should receive 1-2 follow-up visits over a 6 month period1 if they underwent surgery. During follow-up visits improvements in sensory and motor deficits should be quantified. If symptoms are persistent these should be evaluated and revisions made to the management plan as necessary. Furthermore, it may be necessary to understand potential reasons for non-compliance of conservative measures, confirm the initial diagnosis, and/or consider the presence of additional, compounding diagnoses.
