MMI Day Schedule

 

The only mandatory part of the interview weekend is the actual interview itself! However, the Class of 2028 has put together some optional social and informative events on Sunday, January 26, 2025 for your benefit and to help you truly experience life at Queen's Medicine. Take a look at the schedule below to design your own interview weekend experience! Stay tuned for more event details as we will continue updating this page in the days leading up to Interview Weekend.

For the Queen's-Lakeridge MD Family Medicine Panel Interview day on Saturday, February 8th, an optional webinar will take place from 12:05 PM to 1:00 PM. This will include an Assistant Dean's talk from Dr. Allan Grill and a Lakeridge focused upper year Q&A panel.

Come and hear an address from our Associate Dean, Dr. Piliotis, as she provides an overview of the Queen's Medicine program including our curriculum and vibrant tight-knit student community.

Introduction to FHS EDIIA Office with Dr. Vanner & Available Programs for QMed Students

This session provides an introduction to the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Equity, Diversity, Indigeneity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIIA) office (The Nest). The interim FHS Dean, Dr. Stephen Vanner, will speak about the EDIIA office, its current initiatives, and how it plans to meet its future goals. Giselle Valarezo and Dr. Wiley Chung will also provide insights on The Nest and UGME EDIIA initatives. Then, Queen's organizations and QMed student groups for equity-deserving populations will present their programs and discuss opportunities for support and advocacy within QMed. Following these presentations, there will be a Q&A session where you will be able to ask questions anonymously.

This session provides an introduction to the Queen's Medicine Learner Wellness Office. Dr. Renee Fitzpatrick will speak about the office, the supports offered to students, and how they help students succeed. Following this presentation, there will be a Q&A session where you will be able to ask questions anonymously.

QMed Queries: Upper Year Q & A Panel

Do you have questions about QMed? Want to learn more about the school’s curriculum, vast array of extracurricular activities, or what a typical day in the life of a QMed student looks like? Join us for QMed Queries where a panel of upper year students from Kingston and Lakeridge will be answering your questions about QMed. The panel will feature students in the class of 2028.

Ergi Duli (he/him): Ergi completed his BMSc at Western University. Before medical school he also pursued a PhD at UofT/SickKids where he identified the mechanism of clot formation in an aggressive pediatric renal disease which was successfully leveraged in clinical care. Aside from research interests, Ergi is passionate about student development and career mentorship. Outside of education he enjoys swimming, cooking, and watching documentaries. 

Kaamraan Islam (he/him): Hi, my name is Kaamraan, and I am a first-year student at the Kingston campus. I completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Queen’s University, which included a 12-month internship focused on health sciences education. I’m a varsity athlete on the Queen’s curling team, and in my free time, I enjoy staying active and exploring new recipes in the kitchen. Congratulations on reaching the interview stage—best of luck!

Hannah Brown (she/her): 

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah, and I’m a first-year medical student at the Kingston campus. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Guelph and spent several years working in the medical devices industry before pursuing a Master of Health Administration at Dalhousie University. Originally from Nova Scotia, I love being outdoors, playing sports, and spending quality time with family and friends. Congratulations on making it to the interview stage—best of luck to each of you!

Chirag Chopra (he/him): Hi, I'm a first year medical student at Queen's Kingston campus and spent my undergraduate years at U of T completing my HBSc in Neuroscience and Physiology. I am passionate about rural health and supporting community-based initiatives to improve access to care. I love to be outdoors, get active and spend time with friends! Huge kudos to all of you for getting this far in the interview process, and best of luck for the future!

 

Nicole Ledwos (she/her): Hi! My name is Nicole and I’m in the Queen’s-Lakeridge class of 2028. I completed my undergrad in psychology and masters in neuroscience from McGill. After graduating, I worked in various research areas including dementia, depression, and psychedelics before moving over to the pharmaceutical industry where I worked as a research manager. In my free time I enjoy working out, making homemade pasta and gardening. Congratulations on getting an interview! Take a moment to appreciate this incredible accomplishment—getting to this stage is no small feat, and you should be proud of how far you've come. Best of luck with your interview! :)

Anthony Samy (he/him): Hello and congratulations on your interview with our lovely program! Your effort has clearly been noted by the admissions committee and I wish you all the best in the rest of your cycle. My name is Anthony, a first-year medical student at Queen’s-Lakeridge. I graduated from McMaster with a degree in Kinesiology, where I developed a strong passion for preventive medicine. That passion ultimately led me here, to a program with a specialized and focused curriculum in family medicine. I’m looking forward to meeting you soon and learning more about your journey :) 

Mackenzie Sturn (she/her): Hello! My name is Mackenzie and I am a first year medical student in the ’28 Queen’s-Lakeridge class. I graduated from Simon Fraser University in BC, with an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, and a minor in Learning and Developmental Disabilities. Prior to starting medical school, I worked as a Research Assistant at the BC Children’s Hospital BioBank, where I helped process biological samples to support future medical research. Congratulations on getting to the interview stage! You should be very proud of your hard work and success! I can’t wait to meet you all this weekend!

Ariana Jones (she/her): Hi all! My name is Ariana and I’m a first year student in the Queen’s-Lakeridge Family Medicine program. I spent my undergraduate degree at the Queen’s campus in Kingston, completing my Honours Bachelor of Science, majoring in Life Sciences. I had a gap year prior to becoming a medical student, during which I returned to my small hometown periodically to volunteer at the local food bank, and also volunteered for several weeks with the ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development.  After growing up in a smaller Ontario town and seeing the impact of rural healthcare shortages firsthand, my main goal is to one day provide primary care in small communities! In my spare time, I love powerlifting, caring for plants and animals, and learning new recipes. Congratulations on your interview - you’ve come so far and should be so proud! Best of luck, and I look forward to chatting!

Neha Tangri (she/her): Hi! My name is Neha and I am part of the Queen’s Lakeridge class of 2028. I graduated from McMaster University in 2022 with a degree in Kinesiology. During my two gap years, I worked in the research field, specifically, conducting systematic reviews on a variety of healthcare disciplines. My interest in family medicine is within women’s health, low-risk OB/GYN and emergency medicine. I am looking forward to answering your questions about the program. Congratulations on your interview and I wish you the best of luck! :)
