Radiographic Examination of the Ankle Bones
Isolated posterior malleolus fracture
The radiographs below demonstrate an isolated undisplaced fracture of the posterior malleolus. These are caused by avulsion of the posterior talofibular ligament. Posterior malleolar fractures are often associated with significant medial and lateral collateral ligament injury or proximal fibular fractures. Therefore, emergent orthopedic consultation is usually indicated for posterior malleolar fractures.
