The radiographs below demonstrate fractures of both the medial and lateral malleoli. These fractures disrupt two elements of the ankle ring and therefore, by definition, are unstable. The integrity of the syndesmotic ligament can also be disrupted by these injuries. These fractures require emergent orthopedic consultation and often open reduction.
