Symptoms of Sensory Dysfunction
Spontaneous Sensations
- Paraesthesias are non painful tinglings such as when your foot goes to sleep
- Dysesthesias are unpleasant feelings often described as burning pain
- Hyperesthesia occurs when non-painful stimuli are magnified (elevated threshold)
- Allodynia occurs when all stimuli are felt as painful (patients go to great lengths to avoid things touching them)
- Hyperpathia occurs when you have exaggerated spontaneous and induced sensation of pain. The pain is described as constant and unremitting
