Assignment
Occupational Therapists frequently write advocacy letters on behalf of their clients. Think of a way that you could, as a therapist, advocate for Valerie if she were your client. Write an advocacy letter to a community agency, service provider, or government agency on Valerie's behalf. This purpose of this letter could be to advocate for funding for Valerie, to make beneficial programs available to her, or to help her to be able to engage in her community more effectively.
An example of an advocacy letter could be a letter addressed to the local YMCA to assist a client in receiving reduced or waived membership rate to facilitate his or her ability to access physical exercise, which has been demonstrated to reduce mental health symptoms. Another example of such a letter could be addressed to a local agency to advocate for the development of a program that would assist a client with a disability in managing their symptoms. There are many possibilities. If you have completed a mental health placement, think of clients you've worked with in the past.
The final letter should be a collaboration of your teammates and should not exceed one typed, single spaced page.
