To Learn More

Interested in learning more about AT? Now or in the future, you may want options to:

  • find the answers to questions about a form of AT that would enable a particular client
  • learn more about a selected area of AT that fits with your area of practice
  • specialize in the area of AT

If so, you have lots of options. Often, you can gain product information and new learning through contacting the vendor of a certain product. It's their business to be knowledgeable about the products they sell, be they wheelchairs, adapted computer software, or high tech environmental control systems. Just be sure that you gain a well rounded picture of what is available, rather than learning about only the product line they sell. You can locate vendors through the internet or your local phone directory.

Certificate and non-certificate training are available through the following sources:

AT Conferences

You can also build your knowledge and awareness of what's out there through the usual continuing education paths:

  • attend presentations at OT conferences that relate to AT
  • ask a local "expert" therapist for advice and guidance relative to a particular case or issue
  • get on the e-mail or catalogue mailing list for the biggest technology companies
  • the Centralized Equipment Pool (CEP) https://web.cepp.org/. This is the organization that you take courses through to become an Independent Authorizer, or an Authorizer in an Augmentative Communication Clinic
  • attend a webinar https://www.ablenetinc.com/resources/live_webinars/
