Enabling Occupation Through Assistive Technology

Welcome to this OT 842 Module on Assistive Technology (AT). Through this module you will gain a general overview of assistive technology and how it fits with OT practice. After learning the basics, you can gain additional knowledge through fieldwork, self exploration, and advanced coursework and seminars.

The learning objectives for this module are for students to:

  • develop a broad understanding of the scope and nature of assistive technologies and their relationship to OT practice
  • become familiar with a systematic assessment process used to match individuals to technology
  • learn easy solutions for adapting standard computer platforms to address a range of sensory and motor deficits
  • gain exposure to a range of technology types
  • gain experience in sourcing technology information and support

Prior to beginning this module you should have done the following pre-reading:

You should also complete the self-learning lab that goes through the accessibility features on Windows and Mac computers.
