Canadian Blood Services (CBS) tests each unit of blood for the following transmissible diseases:

• Hepatitis B
• Hepatitis C
• West Nile Virus
• Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1 and HIV-2)
• Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV-I and HTLV-II)
• Syphilis
