Cast Application
Below the knee cast
The below the knee
cast may be used for:
- Distal tibial
fractures
- Ankle fractures and
dislocations
- Foot fractures
- Serial/deformity
casting
The ankle should be
immobilized at a 90° angle; patients may inadvertently plantar flex their foot
during casting. Because it will rest on the ground, a good foot plate, flat,
with extra layers of cast material, is also essential. The cast should not
impede range of motion at the knee.
