Distal humerus fractures - medial epicondylar fracture
- Represents 10% of pediatric elbow injuries.
- An avulsion type injury that occurs when a valgus load is applied to the extended elbow. The sail sign is usually present with medial swelling and edema of the soft tissues.
- A serious injury ranging from a simple undisplaced fracture to displacement of the fragment with entrapment in the joint space.
- Frequently accompanies elbow dislocation and this injury should be looked for specifically after reduction.
