OT 871: Clinical Reasoning Case Study - Grace Yang
Case Study
Grace Yang is a woman who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) during which she has sustained soft tissue injuries. She speaks Mandarin, and very little English. She currently lives in rural Ontario with her husband, who has been acting as an interpreter for Grace's OT and other medical professionals who are currently supporting her. Grace is currently employed as a caregiver, and is also responsible for managing her and her husband's home. Since the MVA, Grace has been unable to complete these tasks.
Review the following OT reports regarding Grace Yang in order to develop an understanding of her case. As a group, discuss the following:
1. How have Grace's injuries impacted on her ability to complete functional tasks? How have they impacted on her daily experiences? Discuss how each determinant of health has been affected by this incident.
2. What is the purpose of these assessment reports? What could be their possible uses?
3. Consider the role of the insurance company, Grace, and the OT. How do each of these differ? How may role conflict impact on the perspective and behaviour of each of these three parties?
