Pharmacology Literature Overview

Sources of Drug Information

There are many sources of drug information from reference texts, authoritative web sites developed by government agencies etc., to journal articles reporting on clinical trials.

This tutorial will introduce you to online drug resources - Canadian, American and international - that you can use to build your background knowledge when you require information about drugs. Drug resources should be peer reviewed and evaluated, and the best resources are independent ones that provide reliable information for clinical decision-making. It is important that you search multiple resources when looking for drug information as there is not one resource that is totally comprehensive.

A pharmacology literature subject guide has been created to facilitate your access to information. Use the pharmacology literature subject guide when you require a broader overview of the different types of resources available.

Tasks

Throughout the online tutorial, you will be asked to complete tasks, to keep a record of your work and bring your answers to the Pharmacology Literature class you are scheduled for on January 18, 2011. The resources that you used, how you searched for information and your answers will be discussed in class.
