Step 5: Ventilate chest (x2)
In the absence of spontaneous respiration, the rescuer should immediately ventilate the chest twice, as adequate chest ventilation is the single most important determinant of patient outcome. The video shows the rescuer using a bag-valve ventilator. While squeezing the bag, watch for chest expansion. The bag can be attached to an oxygen source so that a high inspired oxygen concentration can be provided.
