Carpal Bones
Capitate fracture
This 25 year old male received a blow across the back of his wrist with a blunted sword. Pain and tenderness were noted along the dorsal aspect of the wrist. Fractures of the capitate, scaphoid, and hamate bones are visible on the PA and oblique radiographs as lucent lines running through the bones.
In general, capitate fractures should be immobilized and referred to an orthopedic surgeon or hand specialist as a high priority case due to the severity of this injury.
